Family Pictures

by Shauna on August 23, 2010

I have been so excited to share our family pictures with you. My amazing college roomate (and super-long-time friend), Megan, came into town a few weeks ago to take our photos. We had a fun time at the lake and she got some great shots!

Ready?

Here goes.

If you are in the Houston or Dallas-Ft Worth areas – Megan is a wonderful photographer to use for your family.  You can see more of her work here at Megan Thurman Photography.

Kids & Love & Loss

by Shauna on August 16, 2010

Last Thursday, one of my good friends from church unexpectedly lost her 2 year old.  You can read some posts from the beginning of her journey here and here.  Rebekah was born with a rare condition called VATER. I have known Jen for a few years & I can remember the day that she told me she was pregnant with Rebekah… I can also remember the first time that Jen brought her over, and the first question she asked me was where she could plug her baby in.  :) She has a heart after my own sense-of-humor. I also think back to a few months ago when Jen & Rebekah were over for Memorial Day – she left her shoes at my house & I am at a loss of what to do with them now.

With tubes and bandages galore, Rebekah always had a smile and seemed full of joy.  And even more – Jen is always full of joy & hope. Even yesterday, as she spoke at her daughter’s funeral, she was hopeful and peaceful.

I am still a big cry baby about it today. I just hurt so much for her because I cannot imagine losing a child.  Whether you have a few months with a child in your womb, a few years or 80 years – I just cant imagine.  It doesn’t seem like the way that it is supposed to happen. But Jen reminded us yesterday that God is just as good, loving, kind and even gentle TODAY as He was on Thursday morning before Rebekah passed away.

What a message. That will always stick with me and I wish that I could have taped her saying that so you could hear it.  God is good today. And when tragedy strikes, He is just as good.

Jen & Jeremy’s loss has stopped me in my tracks and made me examine my parenting.  I love my kids so deeply and pray that I have many, many years to enjoy them. I hope that I can keep perspective on that even when they push my buttons.  You probably hear more about those moments on my blog than all of the good moments. I hope that I can be better at doting on all of the good times in the future because you know what people, there are lots of good times.

Okay – enough of my mushy rambling.

Go hug your kids.

I am getting worse and worse at blogging…

by Shauna on August 11, 2010

And I really don’t see it getting much better.

But I am really happy that there are people out there that do still blog. Or I would be out of a job.

See…I am not a writer by any means of the word. I think that is what sets me apart from you blogging people. You are all good at writing stuff. And I am not.

See.

Here are a few of our life updates:
1. The kids have been sick. Macy had some strange bug that gave her a 102 fever for 4 days. Now Mackenzie has a fever so I am sure we are about to have the same thing with her. Kenzie also has pink eye. Fantastic.
2. We had well visits today (despite Kenzie actually being “sick”) and here are our stats:

  • Mackenzie: 9 years old – 50% weight and 75% height
  • Chase: 7 years old – 75% weight and 80% height
  • Macy: 5 years old – 25% weight and 50% height

Note: When do they stop this whole percentile thing?

3. We were not chose for TLC’s Home Made Simple.  I am strangely not affected by it.  I feel like we have enough on our plates right now, and a TV show invading our house for 4 days could have very well thrown us over the edge.

4. The kids start school in 12 days.  Life is going to change dramatically.

5. Kip & I just booked a trip to Cape Cod for Labor Day weekend & I couldn’t be more excited! I cannot wait to meet the newest Bowen & have a glass of wine with one of my favorite people in the world.

6. If you ever wonder what I am up to – just visit me on Facebook - its much easier to post there than here.

Ok -that’s it!  I still have tons of video footage and pictures to post from this summer and hopefully I will get to it before Christmas!

Peace.

Sea World San Antonio 2010

July 26, 2010

We were able to take a family trip down to San Antonio last week and we had a blast!  The trip started with a last-minute decision to pack up the family a day earlier than planned and head on down to San Antonio.  We are spontaneous like that if you haven’t noticed.  It sometimes makes [...]
